Before You Take That Pill

when are you going to write a blog about zyprexa? it’s the single largest fraud settlement in history! i thought you’d be all over it
I don’t know. Zyprexa has been all over the news so I don’t know what else to say that hasn’t been covered already. I did do a post about the ‘Spurious advance of antipsychotics’ article in Lancet. (newer not much different than older)

I knew neurontin was useless years ago…before I became a hardcore critic…I don’t get why it’s still subject to being news…I can’t believe how long it takes stuff like this to saturate into mainstream knowledge…
I visited the famed Dr. Ketter for consultation once who wanted me on lots and lots of neurontin in addition to the already 5 drugs I was on…I took it a while but even I, deluded as I was at that point, figured out it was useless.
I know he was pushing it big time to just about everyone at his bipolar clinic…I’ve been curious about his ties to pharma being he’s at Stanford and all and he was so clearly invested in pushing it on everyone…
It’s in the news related to their losing their court case over illegal off label promotion, and all the documents coming out of the case showing the tactics used to push the drug. Psychiatrists who are not into doing psychotherapy (e.g. they don’t speak English, or they have Narcissistic Psychiatrist Syndrome and cannot look you in the eye) tend to throw a lot of drugs around because they literally have nothing else to do.
I to would like to know why it takes so long for the courts to make these people pay the injured party. They are so worried about the fines being paid. What about the people that are affected by taking these drugs off label and not having the proper warnings on them. My husband killed himself after taking Neurontin for 6 months five years ago. Where is my justice or my pound of flesh. Now I am a widow raising 2 children 6 and 10 on Social Security and food stamps while Pfizer gets richer and richer and all they get is a slap on the wrist and people who down play what they did with mundain articles about how the companies gave out pens with the company names on it. Not mentioning how they paid for trips to Hawaii and other little kick backs. Not that money will bring back my husband but it sure would send my children to college.
Trying to deal with this horrendous cycle of being on the medication and getting off the medications is the biggest challenge that bipolar individuals and their families have to deal with on a daily basis.
