It is useful to talk about the details of a trauma with a therapist, it just takes about five times longer than you think it would. The therapy making it worse is debriefing therapy, which is short term (not recommended). As the Vietnam vets used to tell me in our three month inpatient program, you open the can of worms and don't put the lid back on.

Thanks for posting that. I enjoyed seeing you "live".

I have a question on PTSD. What's the current thinking on talking through the trauma after the fact? What about a situation in which the trauma is nearly 4 years ago? Would talking about the details of the trauma with a psychiatrist (not previously discussed in detail with a therapist) help or make it worse? I have read that talking about trauma can make things worse. What's the current general thinking and your opinion on the topic? This is not a hypothetical.

I taught myself to deep breathe by hanging wind chimes all over the place. Anytime I hear one I take a breath. It's a good stress reliever, and does help with trauma recovery, speaking from experience.

Is that work part of the infamous Dali Lama and Nemeroff gathering of minds? (lol)?
