I wrote recently about Mehmet Oz MD who makes appearances on Oprah Winfrey’s TV show who got snagged in the shameful RealAge scheme of collecting medical information on the internet to sell to drug companies, and more recently with the resveratrol supplement scheme. There is even more tomfoolery from her online health team, which includes Christiane Northrup MD, who in spite of being a board certified Ob-Gyn doc, makes weird comments about vaginas, and advocates divorcing your husband as a treatment for menopausal hot flashes.

Nice! I hope she doesn’t do a consult with Mrs. Bremner!

This adds to the fluff science and health news we get out of the “living” section of the Huffpoo, a web site I used to write for Huffpo but after getting tired of the mindless reliance on celebrities for scientific knowledge along with censorship of my posts that didn’t fit in with the Hollywood politically correct-ness, as well as slut fatigue aka Jenny Block, and being ashamed of association with nonsense, I said bye the bye to Arianna, Willow, and the gang, which was hard to do for someone who is pathologically obsessed with getting attention.

Anyhoo now Oprah has got onto her “health” team Jenny McCarthy, former Playboy model and B list actress, whose biggest claim to fame is shacking up with Jim Carey. Since her son developed autism and she has her own garage full of ideosyncratic theories about it, and, oh, since she lives in LA and has some celebrity status, that makes her in our culture a medical expert, of course.

Hey Baby, wanna play craps with your health?

Hey Baby, wanna play craps with your health?

Now she has started a health blog on the Oprah website. And word is she is getting her own TV show on autism or related health issues. Maybe she can get a date with Dr. Phil.

Give up what? Your virginity?

Give up what? Your virginity?

I hope my daughter doesn’t read this. I thought I would throw in some entries since when I read them I couldn’t believe how inane they were:

Im so grateful  for all of you guys who gave me great ideas and asked great questions this month. I will be answering all questions and posting them on Monday.  I hope everyone found new beginnings that will help lead you to a healthier lifestyle. I feel so exited about my new sugar free options and don’t feel so alone now in a sugar free world. Im sure I wont be as strict as I have been but Im going to give it my best to choose healthier alternatives.

On a completely different note, I just watched Star Trek and it ROCKED!! I thought I was gonna hate it but I was jumping up and down on my seat. I was attracted to the young Spok. How funny is that? Then again, I always had a thing for nerds. LOL
XXOO jenny
XXOO to you too, jenny. Maybe the new Surgeon General will shut down Oprah.

  1. Gina Pera says:

Yikes, it’s worse than I thought. Not only should we anticipate Jim Carrey infomercials peddling his own line of neurotransmitter precursor amino acids, but Jenny, too, with her homemade cure for autism?

To me, it’s all part of the bad-psychiatry backlash: Too many people with side effects from medications poorly prescribed by physicians who don’t know the first thing about integrative treatment, including nutrition.

As for Northrup, she used to be sane. Maybe she’s pandering to the market now. But her last book — all 900 pages of it (my paperback fell apart when I opened it) — really veered off into woo-woo.
