Does Dr. Bremner still research Accutane and depression/suicide? Does he still read these posts and respond to them? Does anyone know how I may get in contact with him by telephone to ask a series of questions?

Congratulations on willing the poll! How did the trial go?

Accutane has resulted in devastating side effects including depression and suicide. In fact, Accutane (isotretinoin) at one time was ranked at the FDA as number 4 and number 5 for the reports of depression and serious depression, respectively, and 10th in number of reports of suicide attempt. Accutane is the only drug I know of with a nonpsychiatric indication in the top 10 ranked drugs for suicide attempt. Clearly, there’s a problem here!

I have a son and a niece who used Accutane and
exhibited depressive behavior/anxiety attacks after usage. Has anyone every tested testosterone/estrogen levels of the kids who used the drug and became depressed? My son ended up w/extremely low T levels after using the drug. Hormones cause acne. Is the beautiful skin that results from Accutane a result of a critical interruption of the hormone production of testosterone or estrogen?

Low testosterone causes depression. My niece stopped having regular periods after Accutane usage. Her boyfriend observed her having a panic attack and recognized her attack as a similar attack that he had in prior years when he was on Accutane. He called it the Accutane panic attack.

Kids know these things!

Any suggestions or information?

Some of those hours were in NJ, I think as punishment. There is a vote up on pharmalot.com here about whether the judge made a mistake in including me. (you have to vote "no" to say I should be included, kind of confusing)

As if 120h worth of deposition (15 x 8h) wasn’t enough, now you need to fly to … New Jersey? I’m soooo sorry. Why can’t they have those trials in Hawaii?

On a more serious note, it’s nice to see the name C.B.N. associated with a pharma-critical paper.

Usually you pick one outcome that is the main point of the study. In this case it was orbitofrontal metabolism. A “secondary” analysis refers to something that is done in addition– in this case it was the ratio of orbitofrontal to global metabolism– which was not significant after correcting data entry errors. So the point is that the main outcome was still significant (even stronger, in fact)
