I was listening to the Howard Stern show the other day when I heard Tila Tequila talk about the death of her “wifey”, socialite and Johnson & Johnson family heiress Casey Johnson. I was like, whoa, these celebrities are dropping like flies! What they all have in common is a death related to prescription medications. These are not suicides, either. Often they are taken at prescribed doses. So I thought I would do some more research for a speech I gave at the Emory International Medical Volunteerism Conference this weekend. Casey was taking a string of prescription medications, including Oxycontin, Klonopin, Valium, Xanax, and Ativan. She was also using marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy, and had diabetes. She died at the age of 31 in the guest house of a friend while her friend was out partying, and she wasn’t found for several days. Actor Heath Ledger died from prescription medications including OxyContin, Hydrocodone, Valium and Xanax, and the sleep aids Restoril and Unisom. Anna Nicole Smith died at 39 while on choral hydrate, Klonepin, Ativan, Benadryl and Topamax. This occurred just a few months after her son Daniel died from a combination of Zoloft, Lexapro, Serax, Valium, and methadone. Another young actress, Brittany Murphy, died at 33. She had pneumonia, but she got tipped over from her combination of prescribed medications including hydrocodone, acetominophen, methamphetamine, and chlorpheniramal. Here she is:

And then of course there is the death of Michael Jackson, which I wrote about before, another victim of prescription medications.
These drugs include pain medications (Hydrocodone, Oxycontin), benzodiazepine sedatives used for anxiety or insomnia (Valium, Klonepin, Ativan, Serax, Restoril)
Deaths from prescription medications are now more common than deaths from illegal drugs. When is this going to stop?

It won’t stop until the general public stops buying into the pharmaceutical fix, and psychiatric medication based medical modality.

    Read this:

And read the book, it’s all in there.

America definitely is controlled by an industry, and it’s not just adults dying, remember Rebecca Riley was 4 years old.

I think that some of the doctors really believe in what they are prescribing and others cave in to requests by patients. In some cases, patients are seeing many doctors to get the assortment of medications they take for a legal high or perhaps the patients perceive they really “need” the meds.

Many psychiatrists use medications as their sole treatment. When I was put on a laundry list of psych meds I was told I would need to take them “for life” even though I had functioned very well for 51 years prior without medications up until an episode without precedent when I was hospitalized. Post-hospitalization, I gingerly and carefully and very very slowly started reducing the medications. With the encouragement of a different and very unique psychiatrist who believes in psychotherapy instead of meds for many conditions, I finally went off meds completely. While taking meds I was partially disabled because they impaired my short term memory and deadened my emotional response. Among my many medications were Klonepin and Ativan listed above plus Abilify, Zyprexa, and several others. Thankfully I survived and got off.

  3. [...] legal drugs are killing more people now than illegal drugs.  In this post , Doug Bremmer, of  Before you take that pill  provides a litany of sad  deaths among the rich and famous due to pharmaceuticals. [...]

As a stay at home Mom of 3, which many in society consider disposable I was given Xanax for a spastic colon which came as a result of way to much stress, and no resources to eliminate it. Thus began by decent and what followed was indeed hell on earth. I did swallow a full RX of Seroqueol in year 6 of medications for Bipolar which was
Mercury Poisoning, Low Thyroid, ***THE TOXIC MEDICATIONS given to me**** for 13 years, and indeed made me very ill, and looking very crazy. I began to look at all this having survived, and have been RX free since 2006, dealing only with Low Thyroid and educating myself on spiritual and thus am able to mentor others as to the many reasons for the over prescribing of pharmaceuticals. It is largely economic, and the dumming down of a race, sex etc. Because they can, and it must end, NOW

After a decade from hell and psych med body/brain damage, my daughter leaves the mental health system

  6. Josa Young says:

I think the key is the vast numbers of different drugs these idiots were shovelling into themselves. One at a time is a good rule.

  7. Richard says:

Maybe its time to us back to nature. Drugs that contain chemicals are very dangerous when in excessive consumption.

  8. My 20 year old son went to a party one night, he was given and then took a pill and died. Stop all these drugs now. They belong to people with cancer and in hospitals not on the street with young people. The doctors that give these out are the same as street level heroin
