Today in Fulton County court the courtroom was packed with dialysis patients and advocates who were scheduled to have their dialysis turned off last week but for whom a temporary restraining order had kept the Grady clinic in Atlanta GA open until today, I guess. Lawyers for Grady Hospital argued that the patients don’t have [...]
After writing about the egregious goings on at Grady Hospital, which provides healthcare for the poor and indigent in Atlanta, GA, where they proposed denying dialysis patients to non-US citizens as a way to cut costs (which is a death sentence) (see “Grady Hospital Tells Non-US Dialysis Patients to Leave or Die“), I [...]
Grady Hospital, the public hospital here in Atlanta GA that provides care for the indigent sick, has been having financial troubles in recent years with multimillion deficits. Now based on the recommendations of an outside consulting firm they have proposed saving money by denying dialysis treatments to Non-citizens. For those who are not familiar with [...]
Now the morons are back with a vengence, this time to fight against President Barack Obama’s plan to spend one billion dollars on research to evaluate the effectiveness of different medical treatments. God forbid that coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery should be found to have no effect on long-term survival for 97% of patients with heart disease, or that prostate and breast cancer have no effect on mortality.
Several clinical studies that are over a decade old showed that coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery when compared to medication therapy does more harm than good for most patients.
Americans for Drug and Device Accountability (ADDA) and Justice in Michigan (JIM) have announced their consolidation into a single organization dedicated to fighting FDA preemption in the drug and device arenas, and on both the state and national levels. Their updated website is http://pharmaccountability.org/.
In a sign of their undying loyalty to drug and device makers the Republicans have declared their opposition to a plan to add a billion dollars to the stimulus package to study the relative cost and effectiveness of different treatments for chronic conditions, a plan which President Obama is expected to sign tomorrow. I simply had to [...]
In this week’s edition of the British Medical Journal BMJ there are some articles on “Doctors, patients, and the drug industry” which include some typical “fair and balanced” he said-she said articles in which avators like Marcia Angell (doctors should cut ties with drug industry) and our old friend from Yale Harlan Krumholz [...]
The pharmaceutical industry has been pretty aggressive about getting their products out to market, including such tactics as manipulative use of expert consensus guidelines to the use of former professional cheerleaders as drug reps.
As noted by the author of a recent book on pharmaceutical marketing “Hard Sell: Evolution of a [...]
Well it is flu season now and I was asked by a reader if there was anything new from last year’s post on “Flu shots are for idiots”.
Well I have had some delay because, well, I had the flu.
But that doesn’t mean I am going to get a flu shot!
Since [...]
