A recent meta-analysis in bmj of the treatment of people with multiple risk factors for heart disease but without a history of heart attacks looked at 70,388 people. They reported a 12% reduction in overall mortality which was statistically significant.

I just found a way to save 25 billion dollars a year for President Barack Obama’s healthcare plans. That is to cut out angioplasty, for which multiple studies, including one in the June 11 edition of the New England Journal of Medicine. The mounting evidence doesn’t stop doctors from performing them.

More Evidence That Aspirin is Useless for Heart Attack Prevention

I have never been excited about things like taking aspirin to prevent heart attacks as I have written about before, and this week there is an article in Lancet that pretty much sums things up for me. The authors combined data from six large trials including 95,000 people who did not have heart disease who were taking aspirin for the prevention of heart attacks.

Jupiter Study of Statins for Elevated CRP Is Not Likely To Turn On Aphrodite

Based on the results of the Jupiter Study, that a biomarker of heart disease, C-reactive Protein (CRP), predicts response to the drug Crestor (rosuvastatin) (and not just total cholesterol or LDL cholesterol), the authors of this study would apparently like us to come to the conclusion that, basically, all of us should be on a statin medication for the prevention of heart disease. In fact, I can already hear the shills and the media saying “revolutionary” and “likely to change practice”!
